Fish Buster Charters offers its clients the best chance at a trophy muskie in Lake St. Clair. The Musky season on Lake St. Clair opens the first Saturday of June. Captain Gary’s preferred method of fishing for musky is trolling in the 13 to 18 foot depths along the shores of Lake St. Clair. Captain Gary uses large musky plugs and spinners and trolls at speeds up to 4 miles per hour with boat rods and planner board rods. To catch unsuspecting trophy musky, Captain Gary adds 1 to 3 ounce in-line weights with 5 ft. leaders back 20 to 40 feet behind the boards. According to the fisherman that have fished with Captain Gary, “the most exciting way to catch an aggressive musky is close to the boat in the prop wash.” To get into these productive musky catching zones behind the boat Captain Gary adds 3 to 12 ounce in-line weights with 5 ft. leaders and stiff heavy action fishing rods pointed into the water.
